Install Android on a netbook?

I'm not very good in computer programming and do not know how to do things like compiling distributions Linux, but I would try to use Google Android in a netbook or laptop to see if age is a good as a media player Andriod and applications before committing to purchase an expensive tablet PC Android (or IPAD). Does anyone know where I can get an ISO for an installable version of Android, or a downloadable installer that fits on a USB key? I tried searching in Google, but I do not seem to find are guides for using the Android SDK on a PC, but I want to run Android operating system core and not as a machine virtual. It must be Android, I have compiled the facilities and things like Ubuntu and Suse, but I would try now to see how Android is good and the height.
