Can I access the Internet via Wi-Fi signal in my house with my iPhone?

Im thinking of buying an iPhone, and one of the issues aboot that WI-FI is whether, in my house, I can access the internet with it? and the second question is can I use an iPhone with Verizon If "unlock" it? I know these questions seem really stupid, but I'm just now watching the phone and the Internet Tablet into a single concept.
