Apple did it again. The MacBook Air with new features and output are important for a subnotebook: The 13.3-inch, less than 1.5 kg and CPU up 1.8 GHz speed is unprecedented and extreme flatness. The laptop is thinner than Sony's very lightweight (850 grams) Vaio VGN-X505 10-inch screen. But this is no longer being built.

To make a laptop even thinner, Apple had to get a couple of components. To name the biggest cut, one available USB port. Thus, the MacBook Air can simultaneously or copy images from a digital camera, of copy data to a local network (the adapter goes for about $ 35 extra), is to use a DVD player (another fee) or to load a memory USB, but none of these things at once and at the same time. In addition, you are not an external mouse. To cover its bases, the touchpad is very large, one of the largest on the market. And the two outside fingers trick known since the iPhone works on the touch screen as well. Only time will tell if this is the most practical level the block, away from the screen.

In the presentation, Steve Jobs compared the MacBook Air with the Sony Vaio VGN-TZ and stated that Sony was too thick. To be honest, there are very few features in the VGN-TZ absent from the MacBook Air: DVD recorder, modem, network, FireWire, memory card slot, Jack-In Mike, ExpressCard slot, slots of RAM to improve your memory and so on. Maybe I should have compared MacBook Air Subnotebooks others that were designed with similar goals in mind: boys slim without the scanners Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook Q, for example.

Given the weight of the MacBook Air, 1.36 kg, compared with a super lightweight Lifebook Q as the (1 kg), the Samsung Q40 (1.1 kg) and especially the extremely lightweight Toshiba Portégé R500, which can be reduced to 800 grams, are not exactly stunning. Some even manage build a DVD burner and still less than 1.3 kg, as the Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook P (10 inches) and the Panasonic Toughbook CF-W7. Toshiba Portege R500 weighs slightly less than 1 kg, with a DVD player.

Taking into account the execution time of a MacBook Air, the promised 5 hours with the 37 pack is placed WH in line with several of its competitors. Too bad the food are not interchangeable. For many of the other two or even three different Subnotebooks battery packages available, and some of them with a bunch of supplements, often in place of an optical drive. Sony VGN-spent over 6 hours with its standard battery, the LifeBook Q with its battery pack, high efficiency last more than ten hours TZ.

If you want to work outside or on the road just WLAN access points using IEEE 802-11n draft. UMTS or EDGE is not available because there is no PCMCIA slot to add the function. It a bit weird, on all other models in charge of supporting a minimum modem UMTS as an option. Apple provides the connectivity to the Internet via Bluetooth phone Mobile, provided it does not have an iPhone, which is not compatible with this feature.
